Axiomatic Quality : Integrating Axiomatic Design with Six-Sigma, Reliability, and Quality Engineering

The first book to integrate Axiomatic Design and Robust Design for a comprehensive quality approach

As the adoption of quality methods grows across various indus-tries, its implementation is challenged by situations where statisti-cal tools are inadequate, especially during the conceptual phases. Yet the earlier the system is launched in any given process, the greater are the paybacks these methodologies will yield.

Providing a complete framework for immediate implementation, Axiomatic Quality: Integrating Principles of Design, Six Sigma, Reliability, and Quality Engineering brings together two well-established theories, Axiomatic Design and Robust Design, to eliminate or reduce both conceptual and operational weaknesses. It guides design teams in producing systems that operate at highquality levels for each of their design requirements. And it shows the way towards achieving the Six Sigma target?six times the standard deviation contained between the target and each side of the specification limits?for each requirement.

Axiomatic Quality develops an aggressive Axiomatic Quality Approach that:

  • Provides the tools to reduce conceptual weaknesses of systems using a framework called the Conceptual Design for Capability
  • Reduces operational weaknesses of systems in terms of quality losses and control costs
  • Develops the mathematical relationships bridging the gap between science-based engineering and quality methods

Laying out a comprehensive approach and working through each aspect of its implementation, Axiomatic Quality is an essential resource for managers, engineers, and other professionals who want to successfully deploy the latest state-of-the-art methodology to tackle system weaknesses and improve quality.

About the author:

Dr. Basem Haik is the CEO and President of Six Sigma Professionals, Inc. in Canton, Michigan, USA, and an author of many books on the subject of Design For Six Sigma (Design For Six Sigma: A Roadmap For Product Development by McGraw Hill Inc.; Axiomatic Quality by John Wiley & Sons; Service Design For Six Sigma: A Roadmap for Excellence by John Wiley & Sons, etc.) in addition to over 30 technical papers. Dr. El-Haik holds a Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering from Wayne State University and a Doctorate of Engineering in Manufacturing from University of Michigan?Ann Arbor. Dr. El-Haik is a well know figure in the DFSS domain and a speaker on the subject in many technical conferences. His wealth encompasses 15 years in Six Sigma, DFSS, Lean Manufacturing, Robustness and Reliability Engineering arenas. Dr. El-Haik led several DFSS deployments initiatives at Ford Motor Company and Textron Inc. developing win-win partnerships across the entire product value chain, basically, serving as a "change agent". Through his career Dr. El-Haik trained, certified, coached and mentored over 400 belts (Green Belts, Black belts and Master Black Belts) in DFSS and Six Sigma in both tracks: product and service (transactional).
